It is an honor to announce my next exhibition Chiriticos #IBelong at the Costa Rican Art Museum from April 7-20, 2016. This is a project that struck me deep within, and I’m still actively involved. I thank the people of UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), who again entrusted me with a project of grand scale. Especially Marcela Rodriguez-Farrelly and Carlos Maldonado. Thank you! Also Cristhian Morera who was my guide and fieldwork assistant, taking me on mountain roads by motorcycle, on foot, by car, whatever. Cristhian is of those people who make the world better just by performing their work with great passion and commitment. The bond formed with the Ngöbe Buglé families who opened the doors of their homes and invited me to photograph them will be forever in my heart. And we will definitely see each other again.
Since I came to live in Costa Rica almost 9 years ago, I have seen only from outside the MAC, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful museums inside or outside the country. To expose my work there is an honor and a great joy. As if that were not enough, I had the great privilege of working with the Chief Curator of the museum, Maria Jose Chavarria, from whom I learned so much on both professional and human levels. I am a believer of purposeful photography, whether documentary, humanitarian, visual anthropology or nature photography. This kind of photography allows us to show what the mainstream media does not, to give voice to the voiceless and to minorities: this is how we achieve change, even if it’s small. We work toward this change, we are the photographic revolution.
